Microsoft in UFO cover up!

Well ok, I love a conspiracy theory as much as the next guy but that could be pushing it a bit far. However, I’m not dumb enough to assume that everything Microsoft does is for obvious reasons, and the relationship between Outlook 2007 and Entourage 2008 is a strange one. Like…

  • Why on earth haven’t Microsoft created an easy way to migrate your mail between it’s two email products? Entourage can’t import Outlook .pst files – now why is that? Surely a company the size of Microsoft could have managed that if they’d wanted to, which suggests that they don’t want to.
  • Why is Entourage functionally ‘castrated’, almost to the point that it’s not much better than Outlook 2003? Again, had they wanted to they could have put a lot more into it but you get the distinct feeling they didn’t want to.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall at the meeting where the Entourage development team said “Obviously we’ll include an import/export facility for Outlook?” and the reply came back from some shadowy figure at the back of the room saying…. “Leave that bit out”.

Actually, while we’re on the subject of moaning about Microsoft (and let’s face it, who doesn’t these days), XP Service Pack 3…. I installed it on one machine and it took two hours. I installed it on a new build and it took about 10 minutes. Oh, and it’s hosed my sister’s PC – she has the Asus A8N32-SLI perpetual reboot problem. Think I should send the bill for my time fixing it to Microsoft!
